Fujitsu’s AI tech contributes to Mizuho’s efforts to realize “smart island” project
Fujitsu and Mizuho are leveraging AI to track trends in humpback whale migration, promoting sustainable tourism for Hachijo Island!
Fujitsu’s advanced AI image recognition technology will be deployed in a pilot program to better understand and promote the natural wonders of Hachijo Island. This collaboration marks an important milestone towards realizing the vision of a “smart island,” enhancing both conservation efforts and tourism experiences.
Key Highlights:
Sustainability in Tourism: Mizuho, as the primary financial institution on Hachijo Island, is leveraging its knowledge in finance and digital technology to address regional issues and promote ethical tourism. The project aligns with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s “Tokyo Treasure Island Sustainable Island Creation Project,” ensuring residents and visitors can enjoy the island’s natural resources responsibly.
Innovative AI Application: Fujitsu’s AI technology will analyze video data from fixed-point cameras to monitor humpback whale migration, improving ecological survey precision and providing real-time information for tourists. This initiative not only contributes to biodiversity conservation but also creates new attractions in harmony with the local environment.
Collaborative Efforts: The project involves key roles from Mizuho Bank, Mizuho Research & Technologies, Hachijo Town, and Fujitsu. Each partner will support the successful implementation and coordination of the project, ensuring comprehensive support and innovative solutions.
Implementation Period: From May 2024 to the end of October 2024 (with potential extension based on results).
Fujitsu is looking forward to seeing the positive impact of this initiative.
